Product design of gas-liquid separator

The design and selection of gas-liquid separators depend on the specific application scenario and requirements. Common types of gas-liquid separators include cyclone separators, centrifugal separators, and dehydration towers.

 

In 2026, China Petroleum Gemstone Machinery Co., Ltd. led the development of a large-scale gas-liquid separation and purification unit for hydrogen production via water electrolysis. The first 4000 Nm³/h unit entered the on-site assembly stage in Xinjiang on March 24th of the same year. This system can efficiently and rapidly separate hydrogen, oxygen, and alkaline solution, and achieve alkaline solution recovery and preliminary gas purification through washing and cooling. Its supporting purification unit adopts temperature-switching adsorption (TSA) and regeneration purification processes, which, when linked with the separation unit, can increase the hydrogen purity to 99.999%.

 

In the field of vehicle thermal management systems, Great Wall Motors obtained a gas-liquid separator patent (CN223909798U) in February 2026. This design, by setting a first and second partition within the housing to form different chambers (first chamber, second chamber, upper chamber, and lower chamber), allows the gas-liquid mixture to enter from different inlets and flow through different paths, thus enabling its application in heat pump management systems with different functional requirements. A gas-solid-liquid separator adds a liner between the guide vanes and the housing, and replaces the original anti-fog skirt with a fog-catching umbrella, improving separation efficiency. Another gas-liquid separator uses an upper and lower perforated plate structure; air containing liquid mist impacts the upper perforated plate, the liquid mist passes through the perforated plate and falls into a recovery tank, while the air is discharged from the exhaust port.

 

In the field of new energy vehicles, the design of gas-liquid separators is developing towards high-efficiency separation, miniaturization and lightweighting, high-temperature and corrosion resistance, and intelligence, and is widely used in battery cooling systems and air conditioning systems.
