Working Principle Of Water Ring Vacuum Pump

A water ring vacuum pump mainly consists of a pump body, impeller, shaft, and distribution plate. Its core working principle can be summarized in the following steps:

 

Liquid Injection and Liquid Ring Formation: Before starting the pump, a certain amount of liquid (water) needs to be injected into the pump body. When the impeller rotates, due to centrifugal force, the liquid is thrown against the inner wall of the pump body, forming a uniform liquid ring. This liquid ring adheres tightly to the inner wall of the pump body, dividing the pump chamber into multiple small chambers.

 

Gas Intake: As the impeller continues to rotate, the volume of each chamber between the impeller blades gradually increases, creating a negative pressure. At this time, external gas is drawn into the pump chamber through the inlet, entering these gradually increasing chambers.

 

Gas Compression: When the impeller rotates to a certain position, the volume of the chambers begins to decrease, and the liquid ring begins to move closer to the center of the impeller. This causes the drawn-in gas to be compressed by the liquid ring, gradually reducing its volume and increasing its pressure, thus achieving gas compression.

 

Gas discharge: As the impeller continues to rotate, the volume of the chamber continues to decrease. When a certain level is reached, the gas is compressed to the vicinity of the exhaust port. At this point, the exhaust port opens, and the high-pressure gas is discharged from the pump body and enters the subsequent processing or usage system.
